The Lauderdale County school board voted unanimously to close Cloverdale School.
Several teachers and staff members were in the crowd when the vote was taken.
Afterwards, some wiped away tears as they heard their school would not see another year.
Superintendent Bill Valentine says it was a tough decision, but with declining enrollment for the past several years, the school district couldn't afford to keep the school operating.
"It was the right thing to do from a business standpoint. This was a decision that needed to be made from the head, not the heart," said Valentine.
Cloverdale teachers and staff will be dispersed throughout the Lauderdale School district.
Many students will transfer to Wilson and Central schools.
