Month by Month: When You Can Get the Best Deals | cincysavers.com

Honestly, I never really thought about planning out a schedule to purchase things, but after doing this research, I say it isn't a bad idea. With that said, here are some of the best items to buy broken down by the month:

January

  • Winter Apparel:This is a great month to purchase winter coats and boots, as retailers make room for spring.
  • Outdoor Gear: The dead of winter is a great time to find deals on bikes and gas grills.
  • Calendars: If you don't mind the theme of your calendar, you can probably get one for pennies come late January.
  • Cameras: After the big trade shows like the consumer technology trade show, stores start to markdown older model digital cameras to prepare for the arrival of the newer versions.
  • Christmas Decorations: Not only decorations, but wrapping paper, ornaments, trees, wreaths…you name it, I bet you can find an amazing deal on any of these festive items.

February

  • Cameras: Again, this is another great month to purchase a digital camera because of the trade shows that took place in mid-Jaunuary, which introduced the newer model cameras.
  • Home Theaters and TV's: Because of Super Bowl, you can find some really great deals on TV's as well as Home Theater systems.
  • Boats: February tends to be the month for boat shows and manufacturers start to clear out older models to make way for the newer models.
  • Candy: Wait until after Valentine's Day and you can probably get as many chocolate hearts as you desire.

March

  • Perfumes: Anytime after Valentine's Day is a good time to pick up a new scent, although waiting until March may get you the bigger discount.
  • Boats: March is still a good month to purchase a boat, if you were thinking about purchasing one. I know this isn't something that many people are in the market for, but just in case you are, now is the time!
  • Frozen Food: It is National Frozen Food month and grocery stores tend to run specials because of that.
  • Luggage: It is in between Christmas and summer, so a lot of retailers drop the price of luggage since it really isn't in demand this time of year.

April

  • Boots & Winter Gear: This prices should be super low by now, because spring merchandise has been around for awhile now.
  • Kitchen Accessories: There tend to be a lot of sales on kitchen accessories and cookware for graduates.
  • Cruises: Since it really isn't a vacation season, as mentioned in March, you can often pick up a last minute cruise package for a really good price.
  • Running Shoes: As the warmer weather approaches, more and more retailers will put their running shoes on sale.

May

  • Vaccums: New vacuums come out around June and stores like to start clearing out the shelves for the newer models.
  • Patio Furniture: New patio furniture is starting to come out, meaning the old patio furniture needs to go. Also consider checking out garage sales for a good deal on patio sets.

June:

  • Men's Apparel: Pre and post-Father's Day sales mean steep discounts on clothes for the guys in your life.
  • Champagne: This is the most popular season for weddings, so champagne companies are in serious competition with one another, slashing prices of their bubbly around this time of year.
  • Gym Memberships: A lot of people have long forgotten their New Year's resolution. You know..that you were going to get in shape, eat healthier and lose 20 lbs? So now is a great time to call around and find the best deal on a gym membership.

July

  • Grills: Retailers are already clearing out their summer merchandise, so grills and other items can usually be found at a great price.

August

  • Sandals: Retailers slash prices to clean out their stock. Meaning, it's a great time to plan for next summer!

September

  • Airfare: Around eight weeks before people start taking off for Thanksgiving, airfares take their final descent. (Like my puns?)

October

  • Children's Clothing: Anything that didn't sell during back-to-school season should be marked down.

November

  • Swimsuits: Retailers are in a hurry to make room for holiday merchandise, so bathing suits can be found for nearly 90% off.

December

  • Bridalwear: Fall and Winter are slower seasons for weddings, so finding a good deal on a dress is likely if you are shopping for dresses over the holiday season.
