JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- David Mulvaney runs a company that makes devices to help consumers save energy.
"We were in the business of going green before it was called going green," said Mulvaney.
He is the CEO of Jacksonville based V-Blox.
"There are a lot of scams in the energy savings business, I have an eBook I put out for free called 'Energy Savings Without Getting Scammed," he said.
At V-Blox, the company's focus is largely commercial, but there products for the residential customer.
For the commercial customer, Mulvaney said his goal is to make electrical-powered equipment more efficient.
"Inefficiency simplly means the equipment breaks down more and often cost more to maintain." he said, "That certainly has a higher maintenance cost and it waste energy."
He said his automated technology will force motors to operate at 100%, which most don't.
"We can actually drop the amperage to equipment, which can produce energy," he said.
For the residential customer, he said the company turns its attention to two areas: first, surge protection which can damage appliances and lead to costly repairs.
"Voltage protection from lightning strike or any type of power surge," said Mulvaney.
The company's second area is reducing your cooling bill with Cool Pro.
The device will delay the compressor, the outside air conditioning unit, which uses a lot of energy, and not affect the comfort of your home.
"It will cut cooling costs by between 20-30%, so your cooling costs drops dramatically," he said.
Most customers will see a return on their investment in 12- to- 18 months, he said.
"The only time Cool Pro doesn't work is when the air conditioner is not cycling properly," said Mulvaney.
Since 2003, V-Blox has grown beyond the United States.
The company, which employs 12, is now in 14 countries serving 8,000 industrial customers.
"We're very service-oriented," he said.
